TECHSPLORATION® 2

Boosting Academic Achievement Through Technology

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Enter the realm of LEGO building at an advanced level. Get past the basics of the RCX and programming skills. Design and construct a robot that will move in a preset pattern. Can we write programs that will allow our robots to write our names on the table?

TOKYO DRIFT

Get set for some drift action! Design vehicles that can go zoom! Build your own steering system that can drift around corners. Will your vehicle be the first to reach the goal or will it bite the dust? If you have what it takes…you can have it ALL!

VERTIGO

Delve into the techniques for mixed medium construction using both K’NEX and LEGO. Build your skyscraper with your very own elevator shaft. Find out how to coordinate the motors to power different actions. It’s definitely more technical than the free building we know.

UP, UP AND AWAY!

Your mission is to construct your own launching pad. Use propeller blades and rubber bands to set up a material launcher. See the height your vehicle with its payload can attain. Will it reach the destination or will it go missing in action? It’s all about accuracy.

A. I.

Can your automaton “see the world” with sensors? Assemble a robot that will react to the environment. Program senses and reactions to outside environmental stimuli. Learn from nature and use insects as a blueprint. Dodge walls! Bite back! Avoid the light!

CAUCUS RACE

Run along the track with a preset course, spinning and turning. Again and again, faster by the step. Can you run on the wall using centrifugal force? Or will that be your downfall? Maybe you are just a robotic dodo after all!

TRUSS ME, I’M OKAY.

What are some of the famous and unique drawbridges of the real world? Design truss bridges with moveable structures and mechanical parts that will let ships go through. Do we need to worry about the weight and the sturdiness? It’s all in the mass to capacity ratio.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SANDIEGO?

Construct an android detective that can follow the clues. Sprint along the trails, avoid deadly traps and pick the lock to find the supervillain Carmen Sandiego’s next stop. Will you catch her or will she escape to cause more mayhem?

EIGHT-LEGGED CREEP

Let’s get physical to slither, to creep or to scatter like the creatures. Can you hop like a toad everywhere you go? Construct a wheel-less machine with locomotion abilities. Will you learn from the animals or will you invent a whole new way of moving around?

GLADIATOR

Robot Warriors stand by! Who will win the tournament this time in this grand robotic duel? Compete against each other in different arenas. Who has a weak spot that will cause it to collapse? Two robots enter! One robot out!

SPRING-HEELED JACK

Create your own Victorian horror! A mechanical beast of terror! Here you come, there you go! Design your own motorized puppet with glowing eyes, flapping wings or squirting spout. Watch it flip over walls and leap over buildings. Jump? How high?

INSECT WHISPERS

Let the little cricket workforce “talk” to each other and perform coordinated tasks! Focus on cricket programming revision and inter-cricket communications. Find out if they can give each other coordinated commands so each does part of the work. It’s an artificial hive mind!

CIRCUS CIRCUS

Ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the digital, mechanical extravaganza! Design robots that will sing, dance and blink with magnificent colors. See them swing, flip, roll and perform circus magic. Let’s sit back and enjoy the show.

MECHA-CREATURE

Create your own Mecha-Godzilla from the abyss. Get inspiration from everyday creatures and manipulate it to make it terrifying. Create your own snapping kraken, raking manticore and stinging xenomorph. Can you create a new mechanical nightmare?

FACTORY

Set up a series of robotic knick knacks for a mini assembly line that can automatically build a LEGO mechanism on its own. Can we work it harder? Can we make it better? Can we make it go faster? Put on our thinking hats and use our technical skills. The work is never over!
